Monday, November 17th, 2008
- Self-Discovery and Career Choices. Attendees
learn how to take “inventory” of their skills and
present these skills to their best advantage. Includes discussion of strengths and skills most
sought by employers.
- Odyssey Year, Public Service Options. Explore how many people take a year or two after graduation to serve others, or to explore, travel and learn in non-traditional ways.
- Graduate School. Everything from standardized tests, to application processes, to writing better essays, and LOTS more. Invaluable whether you’re planning to attend immediately after graduation, or sometime in the future.
- The Hidden Job Market. Learn how most jobs never are advertised, and how successful job-seekers find incredible opportunities. Followed by time for attendees to complete the Campbell Interest and Skills Survey (5:30 – 6:30 p.m.)
- “Roundtable” Dinner. Activity-based dinner and discussion, centered around each participant’s Campbell survey results.
Tuesday, November 18th, 2008
- Self-Directed Job Search. In this session, attendees learn the “nuts and bolts” of successful job searches. Networking, informational interviews, using the internet properly, “100 leads,” and more
- Introduction to Resumes. Learn about writing a “killer” resume that opens doors and gets interviews. Functional and chronological formats; what to include, what NOT to include, and more.
- Life-Skills Luncheon – Roundtable discussions about key “life-after-graduation” skills. Budgets, apartments and rent, insurance and investments, and more!
- Resume Labs. Get started on a new resume, or polish your existing one. One-on-one tutorial.
- Christian Science Issues in the Work Place. Detailed information about Christian Science and your job. Health insurance, sexual harassment, social drinking, and more.
- Dress for Success. Attendees change into business attire and participate in a “fashion show,” discussing proper dress for various professional situations. LOTS of fun!
- Professional Dinner. A formal, sit-down-and-be-served dinner where a Prin professor facilitates discussions about basic manners, conversation, and etiquette. NOT your grandmother’s etiquette dinner, but fun and informative.
- Introduction to Cover Letters. Learn the techniques for cover letters that move your resume to the top of the pile. Followed by open computer labs to finish your resume.
Wednesday, November 19th, 2008
- Interviewing Skills. You’ve been invited for an interview; now what? Learn the ins-and-outs of successful interviews … how to express yourself properly, and how to ask penetrating and thought-provoking questions.
- Negotiating the Best Offer. Conference participants learn how to negotiate the best offer possible (yes, it IS expected). Salary, benefits, perks, and more!
- Informational Interviews. Each conference attendee has a one-on-one telephone “informational interview” with a Principia alumni or friend. Your chance to speak, first hand, with someone who knows the field in which you’re most interested!
- Mock Interviews. Participate in a “real” interview with a visiting professional. Your chance to put into practice what you’ve been learning. Each interview is videotaped, then critiqued by a Principia faculty or staff member, immediately afterward.
- Networking Reception. Your chance to join with other conference attendees and invited guests in a formal “cocktail” reception where you can network with leading professionals.
- Closing Banquet.
- Christian Science Testimony Meeting. Provided through special arrangements with the Christian Science Organization at Principia College.
