What is a normal load?

12-18 quarter hours (See Section 5: Academic Rules and Procedures, Normal Load, Overload, and Underload )

What is the difference between P.E. credit and academic quarter hours?

P.E. credit is not considered part of your academic quarter hours for graduation or part of you normal load of 12-18 quarter hours. (See Section 2: Academic Programs, All-College Degree Requirements)

What does it mean to have a balanced load?

Do all the courses you are taking have a lot of writing? reading? lab work?
Be sure you look at the workload for each course and have a balance of writing, reading, and lab work during each quarter. Spread out the courses you are taking, so each quarter you have a bit of variety. It is a good idea to take your general education courses throughout your four years amongst your major courses. This gives you a better balance, and more of an opportunity to see how your major may connect with other disciplines.

Look at the hours you are taking classes. Is there time to fit in work, sports, non-credit activities, and still have time to study? Course lists by hour are available on the bulletin board outside the Registrar’s Office or in your advisor’s office.

Use the ACA weekly schedule to help you plan your week and balance your schedule.

Plan ahead and look at what you would like to take the following quarter. Are you planning ahead? When are your major courses, abroads, and internships to be taken? Use the Educational Planning Guide to help you and your advisor plan your academics.

(See Section 2: Academic Planning, Bachelor of Arts Distribution Requirement )
