Advising
Registration
College students are expected to be fully conversant with the catalog and are responsible for their own registration.” (Principia College Catalog - See Section 1: General Information, About Academics) Students are responsible for filling out and signing their Advising Registration Agreement (ARA), before or during their advising appointment. This must be signed by the Academic Advisor before registering. Advisors will only give out an Alternate Pin # after an ARA is completely filled out and signed by both parties (each gets a copy). When do I register? Check the front cover of the course schedule (paper version). See 8th week of the Prin Web calendar online for your specific day to register. Students register according to current class standing (Freshman, Sophomore, etc.) (See Section 5: Academic Rules and Procedures, Class Level) How do I register? Register online during Week 8. Instructors enter “overrides” online for SIGnature courses, prerequisites, class level or over-the-limit. Each quarter you will receive an alternate PIN for registration from your primary advisor. This PIN will be needed in addition to your regular SSB login to register for classes online.
What does a faculty’s “electronic SIGnature override” mean? During the regular advising and registration period (7th and 8th weeks) and during the first 2 days of Drop/Add Week, students should call the faculty and request a “signature override” for the course(s) of interest that requires a signature. The faculty may want to talk about this with the student and should then confirm (or deny) this request, as well as complete the electronic process. Other “overrides” will be handled the same way. When is Drop/Add? How do I change a course? The normal Drop/Add periods are the first five days of each quarter. For the first two days the process is online (Self-Service Banner). During the last three days of Drop/Add week only white cards, with faculty’s and advisor’s signatures, will be allowed. Take card(s) to the Registrar’s office to complete registration by Friday at 4:00pm. (See Section 5: Academic Rules and Procedures) What if I am gone during Registration? Off-Campus: The effectiveness of the service provided by the transition coordinator is directly tied to the student’s willingness and ability to communicate during the advising/registration period. In the event the transition coordinator is unable to contact the withdrawn student, nothing will be done on behalf of the student (including housing arrangements). Check with OSL: If the student returns to campus without having made prior arrangements, he/she may find there is not room enough in the dorm (and must work on those arrangements with OSL), nor in certain classes (and can choose classes only during Drop/Add week through working directly with his/her advisor). It’s the last day of Drop/Add. 1) I can’t find the faculty whose overrides I need for a class. And/Or, 2) I can’t find my advisor, whose signature I need on my ARA in order to get my Alternate Pin Number for registration. What do I do?
