BUAD 251:  Financial Accounting

Prerequisites:  Economics 203 (with grade no lower than C)


 

Material and skills covered:

This course prepares you for future opportunities:

--Introductory course presented from a conceptual basis, NOT a course in bookkeeping,

--Emphasizes the basic functions of any accounting system and the reason underlying those functions,

--Emphasis is placed on preparation and analysis of the financial statements, which underlie any well-managed organization,

--Thinking skills are reinforced as connections are made with prerequisite courses, especially in the areas of measuring value, cost, and income,

--Much of the written work is completed using Excel.

 

Methods used:

Classes are devoted to illustration of accounting principles, questions and answer problem solving, cases, and lectures.  There is daily written homework involving practical accounting problems

Exams

Comprehensive final exam

Practice sets (computerized)

Class participation

Homework

 

Attendance policy:

Motivated students don't 'cut'.  Unmotivated students experience a grade reduction beyond three 'cuts'.

 

Comments:

Daily attention to written homework is requisite.
