Principles of Macroeconomics

Material and skills covered:
This is an introductory
survey of concepts commonly used by economists to analyze the broader economic issues,
such as unemployment, inflation, economic growth and monetary and fiscal
policy. Students will investigate a
variety of approaches (Keynesian, Monetarist, Supply-side) to the explanation
and solution of macroeconomic problems, and in so doing will develop
perspective on modern economic developments and on governmental response and
initiative.
Methods used:
Teaching methods include
both small-group discussion and lectures.
Current news items will be used to supplement the text.

Daily class participation
(includes in-class quizzes) 10%
In-class Quizzes 15%
Three class examinations 55%
Group Presentation 10%
Final examination 10%
Attendance Policy:
Attendance is not mandatory,
but highly recommended. A portion of the student’s grade is based on class
participation. Students are responsible for all material covered in class as
well as in the book.
