MATH 153: Calculus 3

Prerequisites: Calculus 2, MATH 152 or equivalent


 

Material and skills covered:

This is the third and last quarter of single variable calculus. The prerequisites for this course include definitions of derivative and definite integral, the Fundamental Theorem of Calculus, applications of both the derivative and integral, and skills in applying differentiation and integration formulas.

 

The two main topics for this course are series and differential equations. Other topics may include polar coordinates, hyperbolic functions, 2D vectors, Fourier analysis, and parametric equations in a plane.

 

Methods used:

A typical day will involve review of homework and lecture/discussion. Students often work in small groups. Math tutors are available in the evening.

 

Grade determined by:

Hour exams:     60%

Final exam:       20%

Homework:        15%

Research paper: 5%

 

Attendance policy:

Students are responsible for what happens in class. Missed exams cannot be made up without prior permission being given or unless the student in Cox Cottage. Absences (and late arrivals) beyond three, reduces the grade.
