PE 31:  Beginning Racquetball

M/W/F 2-2:50

 

Instructor:  Coach Paciorek

Prerequisites:  None

 

Equipment and apparel needed:

  1. A racquetball racquet with wrist string or cord
  2. Tennis shoes or basketball shoes or court shoes (avoid running shoes because they will be slippery on the court)
  3. Goggles
  4. Athletic clothing (socks are a must—NO JEANS)

 

Material and skills covered:

Official rules of Racquetball including good sportsmanship and honest, fair play will be emphasized.  Drills to enable successful play will be demonstrated and taught.  Some of the drills will focus on the various types of serves, forehand shots, and backhand shots, as well as proper court strategies and positioning.

 

Methods Used:

Daily drills and matches between students will be used to improve skills and confidence.

 

Grading Scale and Criteria:

The standard grade range of A,B,C,D,F will be used.  Grades will be determined by three criteria: 

  1. Participation and Attendance
  2. Effort
  3. Improvement

 

Attendance Policy:

Three (3) absences by a student will result in that student being dropped from the course with a failing grade.  Excused absences must be negotiated prior to the class missed unless an emergency arises.

 

*The sport of racquetball is an aerobic activity, so expect to get a sweat going during each class.  Remember, effort is a big part of your grade.  This class should be fun for all and will hopefully introduce you to a sport that is quickly sweeping over the nation.
