REL 120:  The New Testament

Material and skills covered:

An introductory overview of the thought-world, times, texts, and teachings of the New Testament, with an eye towards appreciating its enduring relevance and impact, Focus for this exploration is a consideration of the New Testament’s diverse but unified answers to the questions of messiahship (Who was Jesus?), discipleship (What does it take, what does it mean, to be his followers?), and salvation (What is the outcome of following Jesus?).

Lecture, discussion, group work, directed research, in-class writing, film

 

Grade determined by:

Homework, 30%; Exegesis, 30%; Exams, 40%

Active class participation is essential to the success of the course and the student. Please see me beforehand if you will be absent due to another class field trip or because you are a member of an athletic team (see p. 180, “Athletic Practices and Games,” Principia College Catalog). Three absences are allowed before deductions are made from your grade percentage (up to 1% off final grade for each absence).
