SOC 335:  Gender & Masculinity

Material and skills covered:

What does it mean to “be a man”?  This course investigates the social construction of masculinity and its impact on individual male lives.  We study males’ experiences from boyhood, through adolescence, and into adulthood.  Skills of research and analysis are emphasized.

 

Methods used:

Group discussion, presentations, guest speakers, videos, and writing will all be used to develop knowledge.

 

Grade determined by:

60%    2 Research Papers (8-10 pages)

30%    2 Presentations

10%    Daily Assignments

 

Attendance policy:

Students are expected to attend all classes.  More than 5 absences could result in the student being dropped from the class.
