English Department mission statement:

The mission of the English department is to develop moral sensibility through the study of literature as well as to allow students to discover, through their encounters with a wide range of literary texts, the ways in which literature can enrich our lives.

Goal(s) for graduates of this program:

The goals of the English department are to help our majors develop their abilities to write about and discuss literature, to cultivate their critical faculties, to acquaint them with their English and American literary heritage, and to introduce them to the literature of other cultures.
