Foreign Language Purpose

Courses in the foreign languages offer students the opportunity to acquire an informed appreciation and understanding of other peoples through their language, literature, culture, and history.

Elementary courses develop the ability to understand and to speak the language in everyday situations. Intermediate courses provide more extensive practice in speaking, listening, reading, and writing on a more conceptual level. The study of literature in the original languages is begun at the intermediate level of foreign language courses, providing a foundation for deeper enjoyment of the works studied in more advanced courses.

An English as a Second Language program may be offered for international students who need to improve their English language skills.
