Decoding Da Vinci and Company

During the Renaissance in Europe, new ideas were exploding on the scene—new attitudes towards religion, politics, science, and family life. Thinkers of the day attempted to reconcile the old standards with these new ideals and often recorded those attempts in art and literature. This course uses that evidence—written in stone, paint, and books—to explore the history of this turbulent time, how people were thinking, and how their thought influenced the events of their day. In addition, philosophy, music, science, and mathematics were awakening from a long sleep spurred by classical Greek works, setting the stage for the scientific revolution that followed. This program explores what, why, and who joined Leonardo da Vinci in this amazing era of transformation. Field trips to museums help round out this program.
