Principia College:
First Year Experience
People of Courage
People of Courage

This program places students with strong academic backgrounds alongside extraordinary people of courage who took brave and dramatic initiatives, often challenging tradition, hostility, prejudice, and skepticism, and who made a lasting contribution to humanity. In the history course, the three individuals to be studied who significantly influenced and shaped the course of modern history are Mahatma Gandhi from India, Nelson Mandela from South Africa, and Mary Baker Eddy from the U.S.A. Arguably the greatest figure in music history, Ludwig van Beethoven championed freedom in every aspect of his life, facing down the Napoleonic empire in his music and life. All of these luminaries provide models of courageous actions to present-day thinkers.

The demands of this program require that students have a 3.2 cumulative, unweighted high school GPA and a minimum cumulative SAT score of 1090 or higher (comparable to an ACT composite score of 24).
