Gender Equity in China's Schools

Abstract

Gender equity is a term that is heard often in todayıs education field. As an education major, I am interested in exploring this topic because no matter how hard a country, school system or a teacher tries there is almost always a difference in how girls are treated in the classroom as compared to boys. Girls are often called on less, ignored in favor of boys, not encouraged and sometimes even put down. This has a severe effect on how girls are educated and how they respond to education as they progress through a school system. I have been witness to treatment such as this and I have experienced it myself. I am curious if the same happens in China. This will be different because China is a culture that is totally different than ours. I want to investigate what the Chinese believe about education and how this has affected the students. I want to dig deep, scratch beneath the surface and really answer this question.
