Family and the passing on of culture.

Abstract

Cultures are shaped and maintained by the family units of many societies. Those who are responsible for raising children teach them traditions, values, and norms. Culture and ideology are developed at a young age though the experiences and examples in an individual's environment. This paper looks at the ways that culture is passed on to children, as well as other influential factors of cultural development, and the relationship between changes within families due to the effects of modernization.
