The Woman's Role in the Changing Chinese Family Structure
Topic
How has the role of women in the family structure changed in the last three generations?
Through my readings, of autobiographies, many of which are written by women I will have a view of the traditional Chinese family structure and the changes that took place over the Cultural Revolution. In intend to create a questionnaire that highlights the keys questions in my project. While in China I can speak to students at BPU about their family and try to develop a rapport with them to gain trust and hopefully this may lead to being invited to their home. This would enable me to observe interactions between the different generations and genders. I can learn a lot from observing. I could also conduct intensive interviews with women from a varied background. Also I would like to visit a few schools and observe a class. I would especially like to talk to the older teachers and see if they have observed a difference between children from a single child family and that of a bigger family.

China's society is based on the firm structure of the family. The project will explore the effect that the changes have on the family. Addressing the one-child mandate policy. This has caused an increase in abortions and the relationship between the child and parents. Women's educational opportunities are widening, this affects the jobs they are being trained for, and how much time they spend with the family.
