Judicial Fairness: Myth or Fact?: Comparison of Judicial Systems in the United States of America and the People's Republic of China

Topic

Are the Chinese and U.S. judicial systems perceived as fair by their respective citizens?

Abstract

For the purpose of this research project I have defined "fair" as the adherence to a value system similar to that of the subject society, along with the deliverance of accurate, socially acceptable rulings within the system. I feel the research I will conduct in China and the United States will move me closer to answering important questions regarding the criteria necessary for a fair judicial system. The facts garnered during my research are pivotal to my own understanding of the shortcomings and advantages of both judicial systems. At the conclusion of my research I hope to not only ascertain how citizens of both the United States and China perceive "fairness", but how the legal process, by structure or action, can hinder or advance public perception in both countries.
