September 28
Cox Auditorium

The Ernie and Lucha Moral Courage Program is sponsoring an annual talk on moral courage at Principia College. Melba Beals will give this year's talk. She will be speaking at Principia College on Friday, September 28, 2007, at Cox Auditorium, 1 Maybeck Place, Elsah, Illinois.

In 1957, 15-year-old Melba Pattillo made civil rights history just by going to school every day. She and eight other black students volunteered to integrate Central High School in Little Rock, Arkansas. She braved rampaging mobs of parents outside the school, hostile students and teachers inside. Her memoir of the frightening ordeal, Warriors Don't Cry, was a best seller.

Ms. Beals will talk about this life-changing experience and what gave her the courage to overcome the obstacles she faced. There will be a book signing on the stage of Cox Auditorium after the talk.
