Twenty years after my Spain abroad, I find myself leading 21 students into the jaws of the Third World. It's been wonderful to see the country up-close and through the eyes of the students. The Caribbean lifestyle has its plusses and minuses. On the one hand, there's beaches, palm trees and plenty of sunshine; on the other, a country that seems to move at a fraction of the pace of life in the United States. But who knows? Maybe after nine weeks, this slow and soulful salsa will seem more civilized than Prin's tempo allegretto.
