Frank Biggs was appointed to the faculty in 1985. Prior to coming to Principia, he was a lecturer in economics and an economist for the Bureau for Economic Research at Stellenbosch University in South Africa. He also worked as senior economist for a merchant bank in Johannesburg, South Africa. His research interests at that time centered on job-creation in South Africa, during which study he wrote papers on relative prices, appropriate technology and resource allocation. Dr. Biggs spent a year at Wharton Econometric Forecasting Associates in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, where he participated in the building of an econometric model of the South African economy. On his return to South Africa, this model was used to prepare five-year forecasts for South African clients of the Bureau for Economic Research. He has prepared an econometric model of the U.S. economy to be used for educational purposes.
