Hélène Brown joined the faculty in 1994. She came to Principia from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, where she was a lecturer in French. Prior to that, she was a teaching assistant at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. She has also taught French and Russian at the high school level, both in Wisconsin and in France. In the past few years, she has been applying multi-media methods (feature films, video, and songs) in her classes to teach French language and culture. Her dissertation was focused on supernatural fiction in French literature. Her book entitled L'Effet fantastique was recently published in the collection of Stanford French and Italian Studies for Stanford University. For over a year, Hélène Brown was a co-producer and co-anchor for the French shortwave radio programs "Le Héraut de la Science Chrétienne." Her current interests include modern French literature, Francophone literature from Africa, and French contemporary society.
