David Coughtry was appointed to the Principia College faculty in 1985. In 1989 he returned to professional life as a fine artist. During this period he conducted a number of painting workshops, including several for Principia's Studio Art Department as a visiting artist. He rejoined the faculty in 2002 and currently teaches Life Drawing and Oil Painting.
Mr. Coughtry received his M.F.A. at State University of New York at Albany, where he studied painting with Mark Greenwold. He has had many solo shows, and his works have been included in major traveling exhibitions, including New Response: Contemporary Painters of the Hudson River, The Artist as Native: Reinventing Regionalism, and Rediscovering the Landscape of the Americas. In 1999-2000 he was the recipient of a Florida Individual Fellowship Grant for painting.
