B.A. Principia College

As a player, Lyn achieved top five USTA District and Regional Rankings and as a freshman at Principia College was undefeated and a qualifier for nationals. Certified at the Profession 1 teaching level by the United States Professional Tennis Association since 1975, Lyn has been teaching and coaching tennis for over 30 years.

Lyn joined the Principia coaching staff in 1979 and took teams to four national tournaments, finishing 7th in 1981, 3rd in 1982, 1st in 1983, and 3rd in 1985. She also coached players to individual championships, four NCAA doubles championships and three NCAA singles championships. Six of her players achieved All-America status. Recently the 1983 women’s tennis team was inducted in to the Principia College Gold & Blue Athletic Hall of Fame as was Courtney Allen, a three-time NCAA singles and doubles champion.

Under Lyn’s coaching, Principia women’s tennis teams have won numerous conference titles. In the spring of 2006, Lyn became head tennis coach for both the men and women’s tennis teams.

Since 1995, Lyn has also been teaching and coaching athletes with physical disabilities and served as World Team Cup and Paralympic Coach in 2000 for the United States Women’s Wheelchair Tennis Team. In 1999, along with co-director Jim Dugan, Lyn formed The Gateway Confluence Wheelchair Sports Foundation, a 501 (c) (3) not-for-profit organization that provides adaptive sports opportunities. Currently The Confluence offers wheelchair basketball, wheelchair tennis, wheelchair softball, and adaptive water skiing. 

Lyn has been active through the years serving on numerous USTA, ITA, and NCAA committees and has received several community service awards and a distinguished service award. In 2002 Lyn was inducted in to the USPTA Missouri Valley Hall of Fame and in 2006 was inducted with her 1983 tennis team in to the Principia College Gold & Blue Athletic Hall of Fame.

Lyn is married to Taylor A. De Laney, Ph.D., (US’70, C’74), and they have two children, Gretchen and Clayton.
