Lynn Horth began her faculty appointment in 1992. She spent the previous six years first as assistant editor then as executive editor of the Northwestern-Newberry edition of the Writings of Herman Melville under a NEH grant. As executive editor, Dr. Horth administered the Melville Project at the Newberry Library. During this period, she co-edited Melville's Journals, published in 1989, and edited Melville's Correspondence, a volume published in 1993, which included over forty new Melville letters. The preparation of this volume involved extensive travel throughout the United States and Great Britain. She has published numerous articles on Melville and delivered papers at several recent meetings of professional societies. Other areas of research or special interest include nineteenth-century American and British literature as well as textual editing. Dr. Horth's teaching experience ranges from undergraduate courses at Northwestern University to adult classes in the Northwestern night school.
