He comes to Prin after a long tenure as a member of the faculty of forestry and natural resources at Paul Smith's College in the Adirondack region of New York state. In addition to his academic areas of expertise, Mike also brings an international flavor to the Biology and Natural Resources Department. He served as a Peace Corps volunteer in Nepal and later returned to Nepal to become "Chief of Party" for a USAID-funded project at the Institute of Forestry. Mike holds an appointment as a research affiliate with the Yale University School of Forestry and Environmental Studies. He is also the Sustainable Forestry staff member of Future Generations, and international NGO working to sustain the people and the environment of the Himalayas.

Mike's present research and professional interests include work with the U.S. Forest Service in development of the NED decision support software, ongoing projects in Arunachal Pradesh of India and in Tibet through Future Generations and activities promoting sustainable forestry practices.

When not at work or with his family, Mike enjoys flatwater marathon canoe racing. The river below the bluffs will provide a good training site while at Prin.
