Principia has a rigorous Fall Baseball schedule, where ballplayers not involved in Fall sports have daily baseball workouts. FallBall includes team and individual drills, which stress mechanics and fundamentals of all facets of the game. Players will also begin an intense weight training and conditioning program that has been developed by some of the top strength and conditioning coaches from the Los Angeles Dodgers and the San Diego Padres. This strength and conditioning program will continue throughout the season as a means of developing Principia Baseball Players to their full potential.
“Fallball is a great opportunity for baseball players to have one on one instruction with Coach Paciorek to improve individual skill level. Fallball helped me become a better leader on the team and an all-around better baseball player. I am looking forward to the challenge to further develop next fall.” --Sophomore Jesse Davis
Training for the regular season will resume early in January as the team prepares to compete for the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SLIAC) Championship.
Spring Break
The 2007 Baseball season begins in early March as the team heads west for Southern California to compete against the top Division III competition in the country. The team will spend 10 days in So. Cal. playing 9 games in preparation for returning home to begin conference play. In years past the Panther baseball players have had the privilege of visiting with baseball legend Tommy Lasorda and arguably the best manager in baseball, Tony LaRussa. During our 1998 trip LaRussa fielded questions from our players for nearly an hour before his team took on the Mets. In 2000, St. Louis Cardinals pitcher Matt Morris took the time to speak to our team about competition and the importance of having a passion for the game.
Home Field Advantage
Back in Elsah, Principia plays on a field that is unquestionably the finest in the conference. Nestled below a U-shaped hill that runs from foul pole to foul pole, it provides a perfect viewing and seating environment for spectators. We play on a fully-enclosed diamond with built-in dugouts, an electronic scoreboard, portable and permanent batting cages, and bullpen areas. A full infield tarp allows us to play games otherwise cancelled by inclement weather. New for the 2001 season were lights that allow the team to play night games.
