READING THE BIBLE FOR MEANING
Hour 3, two-week course
Learn the techniques you need to read the Bible (or anything else) clearly – whether you’re reading to a group or to yourself – by first learning the principles of conversational emphasis and phrasing, which words you need to emphasize, and where you need to pause to make the writer’s meaning clear, natural, and logical. This system is called “analytical reading.” It not only enables you to understand the deeper and often hidden meaning of Bible passages, but it gives you the skill by which you can make this fuller meaning clear to your listeners when you read aloud. The listener then feels that the writer of each Bible message is talking to him. The class as a whole participates in discussions and answers questions, and each individual will have many opportunities to read Bible verses aloud to improve his skill.

TRAVELING WITH TWAIN
Hour 5, two-week course
Everyone knows Mark Twain, the beloved author who gained literary immortality with his enduring characters Tom Sawyer and Huckleberry Finn. But most do not know about Mark Twain the ultimate tourist. Twain was among the most traveled Americans of his era, having experienced – and more importantly, written about – his journeys from Hawaii to Egypt to Paris to Jerusalem. Closer to home, he was an eyewitness to the swan song of Mississippi steamboating and to the birth of the silver mining rush of the late 1860s. Ultimately he would circumnavigate the globe, lecturing from San Francisco to Australia and from India to South Africa. Come with us on a world tour, led by America’s most recognizable citizen as our docent and commentator!
