Financial Aid
The Process
Principia works with the School and Student Service (SSS) in measuring a student’s need for assistance. This service offers an impartial, confidential evaluation based on information you provide on a Parents Financial Statement (PFS), the primary form required when applying for aid at Principia. You’ll need to refer to your current federal tax return when you complete the PFS. In order for Principia to respond promptly to your individual need, you are also asked to submit a Principia Application for Financial Aid directly to Principia’s Financial Aid Office. In addition, you’ll need to submit a complete copy of your current federal tax return including all schedules and W-2’s. Unusual family circumstances that may not be covered on the PFS form – such as loss of employment or an unexpected financial loss or indebtedness – could also make a difference and can be described in a letter attached to your Principia financial aid form. After you have completed the PFS and it has been evaluated by SSS, a “need analysis report” will be sent by SSS to our Financial Aid Office where it will be reviewed, along with your application and tax return. Since it may take up to four weeks for processing by SSS, the sooner you submit your PFS, Principia Application for Financial Aid, and tax return, the sooner you will have a response. Our processing deadline for returning families is April 15. The director of financial aid is always happy to discuss your special circumstances and to answer your questions by telephone. She is also ready to help you understand the process and your part in it. |
