The Principia:
Middle School Athletics
About Middle School Athletics

The Middle School athletic program is run in conjunction with the Middle School physical education program. Students are given a choice each term as to what sport they would like to participate on interscholastically. The team will practice each day 2:40-3:20 during their scheduled P.E. period. Games are scheduled after school. On game day, the students will have a study hall during their normal P.E. period prior to leaving for their game. Some coaches may be available after 3:20 to work with students interested in extra instruction in their sport.

Coaches will teach the skills and strategies while preparing them for competition. The life skills and development of character are most important in our training of the students. The coaches stress values needed to demonstrate responsibility, punctuality, sportsmanship, self-discipline, persistence, selflessness and teamwork.

Principia’s “WIN-Win” Principle

“The object of playing the game at Principia is to win. The purpose of playing the game at Principia is to grow spiritually.”

Due to the nature of some sports, there will be a limit to the amount of students per team. Some sports may have more than one team. Depending on the sport, game schedules may vary from approximately 4 to 14 games or matches. Students will be issued uniforms and will travel to games on team buses. Games will be scheduled after school during the weekday unless there is a special tournament on a weekend. Students will be expected to attend the games if choosing to be a part of the team. Coaches are expecting all students to play in games, however, the clock, game situations and player attitude and practice performance will determine playing time.
