Dear Friends,

The Trustees are pleased to announce that Tom Fuller has agreed to serve as the Interim Dean of the College.

In our communication of February 26, we expressed disappointment that the post of Interim Dean of the College would remain unfilled for the present. We are grateful to report that the Faculty and Staff Senates at the College took the initiative in a timely and purposeful manner to select three candidates for consideration for this position. We accepted their recommendations and consulted with George Moffett and Stuart Jenkins on their assessments of the candidates and the College’s needs at this time.

Yesterday a committee of six members of the Board held in-person interviews with the three candidates. Each one brought a deep love for this institution and a strong desire to be of service at this challenging time. We are most grateful for their willingness to help move Principia forward.

Tom is a Professor of Mathematics and Computer Science. He received a B.A. from Amherst College, an M.S. in Education from Old Dominion University, and a D.Sc. in Computer Science from Washington University. Tom has taught math and computer science at the College since 1989. He has served as Math and Natural Sciences Unit Head and as President of the Faculty Senate.

In accepting this appointment, Tom told the Trustees: “I am humbled by, and very grateful for, the generous support of the faculty, staff, and Trustees. I look forward to working with the College community to achieve the best possible presidential transition and to demonstrate together the Principia that our remarkable students deserve."

As classes resume for the final quarter of the school year, we send our best wishes for a fulfilling academic experience, rewarding athletic contests, and enjoyable social activities that exemplify Principia’s moral and spiritual goals.
