Duties and Responsibilities of Trustees

Preamble

Trustees are encouraged to study Section IV of Education at The Principia (pages 128-158) to learn more of Mrs. Morgan’s expectations for the Board of Trustees.

Board Duties

The primary duty of the Board of Trustees is to implement the “Purpose and Policies of The Principia” as defined and published by the Trustees under the date of October 22, 1944, and any subsequent amendments thereto.

It is also the duty of each Trustee to prayerfully support and safeguard Principia each day in carrying out its purpose of service to the Cause of Christian Science.

Board Responsibilities

The Board of Trustees has the following responsibilities:

1.         To approve the educational program and see that it is maintained in accordance with the highest standards.  On recommendation of the Chief Executive Officer, to give final approval to:

            a.         Maximum enrollment
            b.         Tuition, room, and board rates
            c.         Scope of the educational program
            d.         Admission and graduation policies
            e.         Degrees to be granted

2.         To manage all of Principia’s financial affairs and to see that adequate funds are provided for the operation of the institution.

3.         To approve the purchase and sale of real estate, the selection of architects, and building plans.

4.         To approve all organizations established for the support of Principia and the means by which Principia’s public relations are conducted.
