Letter 1

Summary of December 18, 1862, Letter
This letter is from George Shuler, her cousin. He writes that he is in good
health and he hopes she is as well. He talks about the Battle of Fredericksburg
and how he believes that Burnside will take the town. He says that if they win
in the East it will make it easy to win in the West. He says that the rebels
fears Rosecrans and when they make a move they will get them out of Tennessee.
He then asks about family back home.
Letter 2

Summary of May 23, 1864, Letter
This letter is from Henry Vogt. He writes about his whereabouts in Arkansas. He
mentions the war down there and an engagement he was in. He talks about the hot
weather and the insects. He wonders what it will be like in July. He talks about
her brother and about how he is doing.
Letter 3
Transcription
Summary of July 15,1864, Letter
This letter is from Charles Hullweber. He writes that he has received her letter
and that he is very happy for it. He talks about how one night they were
awakened by their officers and were told the enemy was driving in their picket
line. Nothing ever came of it and he thinks that they may have made it up to
keep them ready. He then tells of his experiences on picket duty and how his
group was never shot at by the guerrillas around their camp but the groups picketing
next to them were. He writes in his address for her and then leaves several
notes at the end.
Letter 4
Transcription
Summary of October 9, 1864, Letter
This letter is from F. D. Dodge. He writes that he is in good health though he
had been sick. He hope she is in good health. He is sorry that she feels lonesome
and tells her she shouldn't be. He talks about how he thinks the war will be
over in the Spring and he will get to come home.
Letter 5

Summary of July 31, 1865, Letter
This letter is from Charles Mehl, her brother. He writes that he has arrived
home and that he is sorry she is not there. He tells her about how he would
liked to have seen her at home and he is sorry that he cannot go meet her as he
said he would.
Letter 6
Transcription
Summary of July 20, 1868, Letter
This letter is from Charles Mehl, her brother. He writes that he has received
her last letter. He says he will be coming home in a week or so and so he will
give no news in the letter. He asks her to tell their father to send him a
barrel of fried apples and he will send the money when he gets the apples.
