Questions/goals identified by the group at the outset of the workshop

Teaching tips (From Dr. Kimberly Johnson)

PowerPoint Presentation (Dr. Kimberly Johnson)

Here are the questions/goals identified by the group at the outset of the workshop:

How do we compensate now for lack of reading and ESL specialists in reading/writing/communication instruction?

How do I know the difference between cultural and character issues?

How do you apply standard grade measurements to students with various levels of language proficiency and Western cultural familiarity?

How can we create a campus where all view ourselves as international?

What assumptions are we making that we shouldn’t be making?

How can I better support classroom discussion with students from a variety of cultural/learning/communication backgrounds?

How can we help international and domestic students feel more integrated?

How to assist international students in their learning and writing?

Develop cross-cultural sensitivity and heal oppression and racism?

Learn/experience what it feels like to be an international student/staff or faculty?

How do we create situations to encourage dialogue about integration and cultural understanding and embrace cultural diversity?

How do we bridge the divide between the linear way of communication and the spatial communication?
