Artist's
Statement
My
mother told me that when I was two years old I would sit for hours
and furiously color up a storm with my crayons. I don't doubt this,
as my ability to be intrigued by art has not diminished. My attention
has always been enticed by colorful images, shapes, and typography
but it wasn't until high school that I realized graphic design was
the type of art that I was put on this planet to make. As I became
more acquainted with computers I found that my love for putting
graphics and type together could be more efficiently accomplished
in this medium.
There are messages that need to be related to people in this modern
day world of business. I feel that graphic design is the art held
responsible for drawing the attention of viewer to message. I enjoy
creating art that serves a specific purpose in the business world
at the same time. That is why I feel graphic design in the form
of advertising is my avenue of direction.
The
sort of graphics that appeal to me most are usually advertisements
that grab my attention with striking color and uniqueness. One example
that I saw this past summer was an Evian ad that covered the entire
side of a building on Sunset Ave. in Los Angeles. The ad was sleek
and sophisticated while at the same time intriguingly fresh and
creative. This was an ad I would love to say that I created. The
man pouring a bottle of Evian water in this ad had the look of utter
confidence upon his face. The look of confidence upon his face gave
me the feeling that he was sure evian was the best product out there.
It definitely made me feel like any customer who was to buy this
product would be satisfied.
Graphic
design can be used to persuade people's feelings about a product.
Therefore, ethical issues are essential to a designers thought process.
It's up to each graphic designer to create designs that they feel
good about promoting to society.
The
sleek and elegant yet funky and stylish look is what I strive for
most in my art. I want to be able to communicate a specific message
to viewers while also providing something fun to look at. I always
attempt to give my art a fresh and different perspective that is
interesting to look at and captivates the audience.
