Dear Friends:
This Fall 2006 will mark the first year of the Principia Moot Court Invitational Competition. This competition is largely modeled after the Model Illinois Government Moot Court simulation.
Based on the experience that Model Illinois Government has provided for Principia students in past years, we wanted to give back by taking on an educational role and providing interested schools and ourselves with another opportunity to sharpen forensic skills. The purpose of this competition is to provide undergraduate students with an educational atmosphere to hone their oral argumentation skills. This simulation will also require participants to articulate and format clear and logical arguments. These are the arguments that will be presented before the justices.
Participants, in teams of two, will compete by arguing their prepared arguments in four preliminary rounds. This will provide opportunity to argue twice for each side of the case. The expectation is that each team will improve with the experience gained in each round. They will be scored according to particular criteria, focusing on presentation and forensics ability. The judging panel will consist mainly of adults involved in the legal profession.
The competition itself will take place Friday, November 3 rd and Saturday, November 4 th. The competition will consist of only 16 teams. Register early to reserve a spot for your team(s)! Awards will be given to the most outstanding team and also to the most outstanding attorney.
If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me at (314) 596-8629 or enacewicz@principia.edu. We look forward to hearing from you!
Sincerely,
Elizabeth Nacewicz
